#2 - 🌊 Mar Adentro

Mar adentro, mar adentro.

Inspired by the Terrazza Mascagni in Livorno, Tuscany, Italy. A place of my childhood that reminds me of my grandfather Carmelo, the person who inspired me as a kid, since I remember him being always smiling, solar, good to people, and with a word of wisdom always in his pocket. An example for me.

Livorno is a city by the sea and of the sea, and the people who live there have a strong connection with it. As I do. Mar adentro means having the sea inside, even when you are far from it.. you can feel it. And when you are in it, you feel like one with the water. You are in the sea and the sea is in you. This strong connection with the planet we live in, that I felt only a few times in my life, and mainly in while I was in the water. Riding a wave, jumping into the sea from the rocks, or simply floating as a dead body. In different places like Sicily, Bali, South Africa, or, precisely, Livorno. I was born and raised in Pisa, having only a few members of my family living in Livorno and from Sicilian roots. Pisa is a historical rival and opposite to the lebronic culture in many aspects, but as a wise friend once said to me: “You are not from the place where you are born, that you can’t choose, you are from the place where you belong, that more than often you can’t rationally choose neither.”

The fantastic thing about the sea is that it feels like home, it’s always welcoming you, and you can find it anywhere in the world.

I am not a big fan of borders or boundaries or limits, that is why I like to see it as a whole, a sea that mixes with the sky. You can’t say where the sea ends and the sky begins. No line on the horizon.

With the sunlight and from a certain perspective, you can see the Terrazza Mascagni flooring behind the water. Only if you have inside you the proudly Tuscan lebronic spirit you will spot it. It’s faded but if you look carefully, you will see it.
It’s a tribute to this amazing place.

There is a concept of calmness as well, as when I feel in agony, pain, and nervousness, the sea is my escape, it has the power to calm me down and appreciate the beauty around me in gratitude. There is a sea that goes from roughness to calmness, where it mixes completely into peaceful water and sky, into the airness of feeling weightless.
