“Soy el fuego que arde tu piel, Soy el agua que mata tu sed” - Rodrigo Amarante
Fuego is all about passion, desire, strong feelings, and pleasure. It was born on a tranquil Sunday, after a run by the sunset that set the sky of Barcelona on fire. Back home I was playing with candles and wax and I was inspired by the way the fire was consuming candles around me. The fire represents such a variety of things that can be expressed in many different ways, that’s why you can find different forms of fire in the painting. It can be fun but it can be dangerous.
The fire speaks to you, as I learned during my camping in South Africa. Listening to it can be painful but rewarding, it can open your perspectives and your mind. It helps you to accept things that you don’t necessarily like. It takes you far away while sitting in front of a burning fire with friends, or alone.
It lights the night, it can be a moment of perdition, to feel lost but alive, or it can be the light that shows you the way. It’s a vivid color all of us have inside, that is the fuel of our engine, of our actions. It’s so important to have Fuego inside of us.
It can burn and brush you or it can bring you far in accomplishing what you want. So it’s about managing it, making sure it leaves you with the good and pushes you upwards. That’s why this sense of going up. Fire goes up in the air by nature, and it’s true also within us. The fire affects the air, making it warmer and nicer to be around, especially on cold nights. But it can also make it toxic and unbreathable if in excess.
As with everything in life, it needs a balance. It’s all about managing it. Where are you going to let your fire bring you?
