“Don’t take life too seriously, you’ll never get out of it alive” - Elbert Hubbard
Created on a commission for the Maison Mario art gallery in Berlin, Germany, during my stay in Cape Town in March 2024.
The painting was inspired by a new friend made there, a South African artist named Chris, in art MacClements, who paints murals across the country and particularly in Cape Town, his home. I was amazed by his work and wanted to replicate a mural in a painting.
It was done on a night of no sleep, while I had to think about an important decision in my life. It represents the chaos of life.
How many times did you get down a path that took you elsewhere? A place that you didn’t plan to go? It happens to me all the time. Most of the time the place that I land to is way better than the one I was pursuing at the beginning. It’s about trusting the process, the karma, the force of life and nature that is anyway much stronger than us. You can’t fight against it. Or you can and inevitably lose.
The lines were done impulsively, drawing forms without forms. Symbols that are not symbols. Different colors. It’s a reminder to not take life too seriously, don’t plan too much, being flexible with the events around you. Taking risks. I never liked to plan too much in advance, I enjoy doing things and living based on the heat of the moment, my mood, my desires, and my inspirations. They might change a lot from one day to another.
It’s an invitation to live every moment and do things that you don’t know, just being curious and going with the flow. And Staying funky.
