“Happiness is a simple idea when facing the sea” - Jean-Claude Izzo
Sandy Bay is a beach in the western cape of South Africa, around 30 min from Cape Town. One of my favorite beaches in the world. Probably because it’s very private, you need to do a little hike on white dunes to get to this little paradise, while birds and all kind of insects sing around you.
It’s a nudist beach, so even if there are visitors (which is not common, most of the time you have the whole beach for yourself) you can get naked, and immerse yourself in nature without any boundaries. Feeling free in the water and the land, protected by green and sandy mountains on your back.
After spending a day there, I was looking at the waves crashing on the beachside, and I was inspired by the way the water was moving the white sand together with the reflections of the sun into the sea. A real show of nature. This is a representation of what I saw, the idea was to replicate the effect of the sand that accumulates in little grains, as if in the paintings you could touch it.
The feeling of touching the sand with your hands or naked feet always brings my mind to peace. It’s soft, it’s clean, and even if it looks as a whole from the outside, it’s formed by millions of little parts that stand together to accommodate you. It’s very altruistic for a beach to have the sand staying together and holding you and all the weight that you carry. Sometimes you even weigh more because of the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that are with you in that moment. That is why I believe it’s easier to be light and stress-free by the sea. Because a beach, to hold you, needs to ask for all its little parts of sand to stick together, so the spirit of the seas, which is a great friend of the sand, wash away all your troubles and stressful thoughts to make you lighter and making it easier for the sand to stick together and hold you. Airness. So that some grains of the sand can enjoy a little time with the sea too, taking a swim!
