about Paolo Maria Agostini

Born in Italy.
Living between Barcelona, Cape Town and Bali.
By the sea.

I am a self-taught abstract painter. I create intuitively, following my instinct looking for harmony in the colors.
Starting from a concept and color and then entering a flow of ideas. I like to paint with the canvas on the floor, to be able to move around it, to be “actively painting” in many directions.

My origins come from Tuscany and Sicily.
Since I was a kid, I have been drawing while I was thinking, it was a way to connect with my inner self and interiorize the topics I was studying. When I was bored at school, for example, I would start drawing on the books until the textbook would be hardly readable. Only later in my life, I felt the call of painting.

A free spirit, I left Tuscany at 16 because I felt the need to discover new places in the world, moving firstly to South Africa, for a school exchange program, and then to Milan for university, to study Business Management.
After the experience in Africa, I realized Italy was too small of a country, so I moved to Chicago with the university, and then to Australia for an internship. It was a way to connect with different people and get out of my comfort zone.
After graduating, I moved to London to continue my studies, but I didn't feel at home in such a big city, too far from the seaside. So I took the opportunity to move back to the US, in San Francisco, and worked there in a Tech company. There I kicked off my interest in Tech and started a career that would bring me firstly to Dublin and then to Barcelona. In Spain I felt at home straight away, I found a place able to provide me with an international community, the sun, the sea, nature, and sports. And art.
Since I was able to work remotely, I decided to travel around the world looking for places where I could feel a similar connection with the people and surroundings. I dreamed of being able to live in different continents to have the maximum exposure possible to different minds and cultures.
I feel enriched by discovering new ways of living. Diversity is key to me.
This is how I established myself in places like Cape Town and Bali, and together with Barcelona, these are the places where I now spend most of my time to this days.
